In strong March winds this weekend teams from Gorleston Golf Club played in the first round of the national Daily Mail Foursomes knockout competition with mixed results.

On Saturday the Gorleston pairing of Hayden Grand and Andrew Clifford took on a pair from Southwold. The match was hard fought and resulted in the team from Southwold Golf Club winning one up. The ladies Gorleston pair of Heather Harvey and Vera Woolnough also had a tough match on their hands in testing conditions against Debbie Plane and Lorraine Raven from Caldecott Hall Golf Club. (pictured) The ladies match also went to the 18 hole with the Gorleston pairing coming out on top by one hole, well done ladies we wish you good luck in the next round.

On Sunday the Men's Section played a Todd and Turner four ball better ball competition with the following results: First with an excellent 44 points were Lee Brooks and Duane Gooch on countback from Jack Flaxman and Bob Cooper in second place.

Wednesday saw the Ladies Section play in a fun format yellow ball competition. The successful team of Jayne Needham, Sheena Emrick and Pauline Phillips won with an super 79 points.

The Midweek Stableford was played on Thursday with the following results: Division 1 - first, Rick Atkinson with 39 points from Richard Reynolds in second place with 37 points. Division 2 - first, Neil Cunliffe with 38 points and in second place was John Hopwood with 37 points on countback. Division 3 - first with an excellent 44 points was Keith Newberry from Kevin O'Brien on 43 points.
