Atrocious Weather Conditions Didn't Stop Play

Spring Mixed Open and Ladies AM/AM week at Gorleston Golf Club in testing weather conditions. Despite strong winds, hail and rain the Spring Opens went ahead and thanks to super organisation and catering it seemed everyone went home happy whether or not they won a prize.

On Saturday the Annual Spring Mixed Open attracted thirty pairs from eighteen different Golf Clubs. Despite the testing weather conditions there was some excellent scoring on the day with the following results: First - Nicky Greenacre and Charlie Green from Bawburgh Golf Club with 40 points, second - Tracy and Neil Booth from Eaton Golf Club with 39 points and in third place were Rosalind Ford from Woodbridge Golf Club and Michael Ford from Kingfishers Golf Club on countback with 36 points.

Wednesday's AM/AM was also the victim of inclement weather but despite this 23 teams representing 16 Golf Clubs took part. The results were as follows: First - Teresa Tarrant, Avril Carey, Linda Asker and Sheena Perry from Thetford and Barnham Broom Golf Clubs with 72 points, second were Annie Sibley, Jill Ollington, Gail Barrett and Liz Vaughan from Costessey Park Golf Club and third were the team from Sprowston Manor Golf Club conprising: Linda Kerry, Shelley Hamilton, Norma Perks and Doreen Simpson with 60 points.

On Sunday the Men's Section played for the Arthur Fell Cup which is a Bogey Competition and the results are as follows: First and winner of the Cup was Alan Leggett with +8, second - Ray Pope with +5 on countback from Mark Morgan in third place.

On Friday the Ladies Section competed in a Divisional Stableford Competition and the results were as follows: Division 1 - first, Sue Smith with 34 points from Heather Harvey with 30 points in second place. Division 2 - first, Maureen Duckett with 34 points on countback from Vera Woolnough in second place. Division 3 - first Leigh Denny with a super 40 points from Sheila Sterry with 32 points in second place.
