It was a busy week for competitions at Gorleston Golf Club culminating in the Captain's Weekend. Once again the members enjoyed fabulous weather and playing conditions.

On the last Sunday in July the men played their monthly stableford combined with the David Mobbs trophy. The results were as follows: Division 1, first Dave Uden 40 pts on count back from Lee Chapman. Division 2, first Howard Kellett 43 pts second, Peter Langford with 38 pts on count back. Division 3, Paul Newberry with 38 pts on countback from Andrew Garrod.

On Wednesday the Ladies Section played their Club Championship for the Arthur Howlett and Joan Baker Cups. This is a 36 hole medal competition for an overall handicap and scratch winner. The winner of the Arthur Howlett with the best handicap score was Gail Chapman with a net 137 and winner of the Joan Baker Scratch Cup and Club Champion for the year with the best scratch score was Jenny Howlett with a gross score of 162.

The Captain, Howard Thornton, had a busy weekend with a Saturday Texas Scramble which was won by the team of David Butcher, Ian Harbord, Julie Harbord and Callum Hitcham.

On Sunday morning the men played a stableford competition for the Captain's Cleek which was won by Ray Pope (pictured) with 41 pts from Tommy Hunt with 40 pts. In third place with 39 pts was Steven Hall.

In the afternoon there was a mixed greensomes competition which was won by Anne and Mike Amos with an outstanding score of 45 pts with Neilma and Keith Jary second with 38 pts.

Over the weekend the Captain raised a fantastic total of £1,750 towards his designated Charity for the year Prostate Cancer.
