On Monday 5th August Gorleston Golf Club's Ladies Stearn Trophy team travelled to Aldeburgh Golf Club to play against Newton Green Golf Club in the Quarter Final of this Suffolk County Knockout Competition.

The Stearn is a 36 hole foursomes format competition for handicaps 12-20 and is always hard fought across the County. Gorleston's team of six ladies comprised: Jan Parsons and Sue Smith, Anne Amos and Gail Chapmen, Maureen Dark and Victoria Watson. In sunny but breezy conditions the Gorleston team were 2-1 up at lunch. In the afternoon the competition was too close to call with one match won and one match lost it took the first pairing of Jan and Sue to go down the 37 hole where they managed a win. So Gorleston progress to the Semi Final, on 2nd September, when they play against the Stowmarket team at Halesworth Golf Club. In congratulating them for reaching the Semi Final we wish them good luck in this the next round.

With school holidays in full swing it was time for Junior Competition amongst this section of the Club. On Sunday, in testing windy conditions, the George Willard Trophy, Junior Medal Competition, was held and Jacob Goldsmith managed a super nett 70 to win from Abigail Carr in second place.

On Friday 9th August the Annual Richard Hunt Memorial Competition was held. This is a super day when a full field of players from all categories play to raise funds for Gorleston's Junior Section This is the eleventh year since its inauguration and was no exception; a full field of players took part and raised an amazing £3,355 for the vibrant Junior section. A huge debt of gratitude is due to the organisers who include the Hunt family and Vaughan Cutter. The Junior winners on the day were first: Ceryse Fuller with a super 42 points and second Ashton Cater with 32 points.
